Analysing the female identity regarding religion, nationalism, culture and place, belief system-predominantly examining what does it mean to be women in Post-colonial India and Pakistan and the effect of colonisation,I attempt to raise questions against stereotypical image of women in my society and try to contemplate there justification in the present day.
Boundaries in various forms have always been an indispensable part of my culture and traditions without a choice. Observing my mother battling through them for her individuality made me evaluate there impact on my psychology and leading me to the realisation of my interest. In a culturally driven society, practices have been coming down since ages without being questioned, I aim to research the reasons behind them and interrogating there viability in this age (or presently). My practice has traveled through various mediums yet each work has a common thread running through all of them while the context goes through conversion and modification.
The Recent project,“Journey to the opposite side”, which I took on in the last quarter 2014, series of voice-over recording of Females who have seen the Partition of Indian - Pakistan. My intentions became clear when I came through an article where a politician suggested that all the Muslims in the country should be made to tick a box which says their ancestors were Hindus. These females have seen the horrible time of religious clash which lead to partition and I intended to record their personal journeys to save their lives.
